In the book you just here of two Med Jacks Clint and Jeff. The pair is constantly observed together and getting a charge out of every others organization. They resemble closest companions stuck to each other’s hip. This is the thing that I need my part in the dell to be. At the point when things don’t go as arranged request is lost and won't be found until things refocus. Recap adolescent young men and one young lady are sent to this labyrinth to check whether they are proficient to understand it. Two beginners are sent in one month which isn't typical particularly on the grounds that one is a female. At that point their provisions don’t come, so they need to proportion all the food out. The dividers quit shutting around evening time so they rest in the residence for security. Every single night that they don’t explain the labyrinth another child is taken by the mourners and slaughtered. A Modest Proposal A Satirical Solution for Gender Inequality free essay sample

FOR PREVENTING THE ESCALATION AND LONG TERM PERPETUATION OF GENDER INEQUALITY It is a melancholy object to those women who are unfortunate enough to be flourishing in this current day in the place we call earth. Women today are unfortunate enough to face dreadful conditions just because they do not inhabit the â€Å"correct† carcass of a male. This hostel environment has caused female individuals to have to deal with hardships, such as having lower pay, not having equal job opportunities, and in the most abysmal cases abuse from a male. This excruciating painful environment could lead to a complete revolution ofall women, starting an all out war of the sexes, if the women are to win this war men will turn into slaves of the corrupt government, which would be controlled by the women dominated government. Then therewould be nothing stopping from the mass extinction of men, in a gender genocide. I think is is agreed by all parties that the life threatening occurrence of gender inequality is a universe wide problem that stems from men thinking that they are in complete and total power.Gender inequality is a predicament that involves the whole world. This problem can be fixed my men being less ignorant, and for governments to step in and make laws providing women with all the same rights, and opportunities as men.If anyone is able to get world leaders to come together and make such simple rules they would deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, and be considered as the saviour of society. But my intention is far from being confined to provide only for the betterment of the world, but to make society come together as a whole.People need to start looking at each other as people and not as a gender, the world needs to have a better relationship, and to do this everyone needs to be the same. If everyone is the same there is no way to discriminate against a mass group of people. With everyone equal and virtually unable to be discriminated against, the economy will be able to flourish with everyone being able to contribute in some way shape or form. As to my own part, I have studied from proposals of other projectors, and concluded that they are, not nearly as efficient as they claim to be. The generalanswers of this unfortunate circumstance, are basic laws making it illegal to deny women a job, housing, and even making sure women have the same pay as men. These regulations are not rigorous enough to combat the epidemic of gender inequality. If this issue is not contained in the coming years we will be forced to decide what we need more, the man or the women, becausemass extinction of a gender is clearly prevident if the two cannot coexistwith each other.I have set forth and idea that will eliminate all forms of gender inequality, while keeping everyone happy and verifying no one is considered a â€Å"minority.† I will now present my own idea, which I hope will not be subject to any disagreement I humbly offer it to public consideration that humankind as a cohesive and cooperative unit, shouldall be recognized not as a gender, but as one unit know as â€Å"mankind.†No more will we have social tags such as â€Å"virile† and â€Å"muliebrity† but known as an ensemble of â€Å"homosapians.† Furthermore everyone with a pulse will be requiredto go to the closest courthouse and have their gender completely eliminated from their birth certificate. This will cause everyone to be identified as the same thing, and there will be no worry about any gender inequality when everyone is just identified as a â€Å"human.†When people adapt to the new identification society will blend and everyone will learn to be happy with each other, while not a single person has to suffer for not being a â€Å"male.† In this scenario, when everyone is blended into one big society of â€Å"homosapians†everyone will be forced tocoeincide with each other, andthey wont be able to label their fellow humans with a gender.Everyone will soon have the same pay, will no longer face abuse, and in some extreme cases finally be considered citizens. Many homosapians may be confused for a few years, and maybe even irate of the new change but with everyone equal the statistics of people being mistreated based on gender will collapse to literally nothing. Of course people may be able to tell a gender difference based on how someone may dress, to counteract this everyone will also be required to wear the same blue T-shirt, and jeans when going out in public. This seems like an intense proposition, but it will indeed make society a less aggressive place to live for women, and the change will we be accepted by all women(now considerd homosapians) everywhere. This outfit will also be provided to every human being so money will not be an issue for anyone. These drastic and sudden changes, will be problematic to establish due to the obstinacy of many people of todays society. There will always berebellious people in this day and age so there will be a group of people who will decide to refuse to dress as they should, or refuse to get their birth certificate updated. Although these people will exist, with the mass majority of people doing what should every person will be living in a happy place full of equality and optimism. I can think of no valid objection that may be introduced to antagonize this proposal, except for the certainty that almost all fashion business will most likely go out of business, do to everyone being forced to wear the shirt and jeans costume provided by the government. This could be problematic, but withalmost 4 billion women now not being identified as a gender that can now be 100% equal no one will care about those business, and will be happy with one of the worlds most colossal problem finally being situated. Again, no one should dare to suggest these notions to me until they have a small spark of hope that these actions may be implemented. It is not that I do not respect the input of others on the subject of solutions to this topic, but simply that I have spent 30 lifetimes researching this topic, and have detected that my solution is the only one due to the supernatural power people have avoiding the law, with the solution presented within the next 10 years every homosapien will have slowly converted to the new rules, and everyone will have the correct information on a birth certificate, and the correct kind of outfit to be worn outside.

Platos Phaedo Essays (578 words) - Socratic Dialogues,

Plato's Phaedo In Plato's Phaedo, Socrates is explaining to his friends that the acquiring knowledge comes from a recollection of things from a previous life. Socrates uses this as a way to comfort his friends. Based on this, according to Socrates, if a human being can learn anything, they must have known something about what it is they are learning about. If a human being has known something without having been taught it (in this life), they must have learned it before their birth. If the soul existed prior to birth it stands to reason that it survives death, and thus Socrates' friends have no cause for grief. This prior knowledge is triggered into consciousness by sensory input. Plato is trying to work beyond a two-fold paradox. Namely, if a human being does not know something, they cannot learn it since they know nothing about it. If, on the other hand, a person knows it, they do not need to learn it. When Crito asks Socrates how he wishes to be buried when he dies, this is a mistake because it shows his lack of understanding. Crito's lack of understanding lies in the fact the he doesn't understand how the soul survives the body at death, and in fact Socrates will still in actuality be alive. By making this mistake, according to Socrates, he Crito is harming the soul. If Crito were in understanding of this, he would not have asked Socrates about burying his body, because Socrates is not merely a body, but rather the body is a casing for the spirit and who he is. Socrates does not take Crito's question seriously because to Socrates the body is not the basis of who he is. To Socrates, the fact that his body is going to die does not mean he will be dead. In fact, his soul will go on, be born in a different body, and go back to learning what the soul seeks to know. Socrates wants Crito to know that he will not be burying him, but instead just his body. Socrates is justified in his response to Crito's question because Crito's question goes against everything that Socrates says and stands for. I think that Socrates is upset with Crito for being so ignorant. He shows this by laughing at Crito for his question. He also shows this by telling the others that Crito only sees him as the body he will be burying, rather that the person talking to them. When it came time for Socrates to drink the poison, Crito again shows his lack of understanding by asking Socrates to wait awhile before taking it. Crito wants Socrates to try and enjoy the last bit of life that he can enjoy. Socrates again puts Crito in his place by saying that any human being would do this, but it is not right for Socrates. Socrates does not want to appear ridiculous for clinging to life when there is none left. Overall Socrates is trying to tell human beings that life is nothing more than an opportunity for the soul to learn what it is in search for. The human body is nothing more than an instrument for the soul to use. A person should not fear or run from death, but rather look at it as a chance for the soul to move on to something else and to another chance to learn more based on what was already learned Philosophy Essays

Workplace Violence from an organizational perspective Coursework

Workplace Violence from an organizational perspective - Coursework Example During the incident, the admission clerk who was threatened by the three men alerted the security force, and other members of the organization. The police who were present at the time swung into action and managed to apprehend the offenders. The incident left many of the organization’s staff members traumatized, the admission clerk getting affected to the point of leaving work. The affected staff were offered emotional counseling to help them overcome emotional trauma. The federal government has no specific requirements to protect workers from violence in the organization. However, there are a number of organizations that have come up with standards to prevent violence in the workplace, assigning responsibility for safety in the workplace. The US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for example has established guidelines and made recommendations aimed at reducing workers’ exposure to violence. The organization has however not institut ed any rules in this respect. Each state has the capacity to enact legislations relating to workplace safety. Currently, 16 states have enacted legislations that demand the establishment of workplace violence prevention programs, the study of violence in the workplace, incident reporting and tougher penalties for offenders. The Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) demands the reasonable protection of employees from violence and that incidences of violence be reported to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. The healthcare facility being accredited by the Joint Commission needs to comply with the commission’s standards and therefore manage safety risks. According to the Environment of Care Standard 1.10, the organization should have a written safety plan that complies with OSHA recommendations, calling for staff commitment to safety. Management needs to monitor the organization taking not signs of violence for granted. Compromising on workplac e safety and security may have serious legal implications on both employers and workers. Management styles employed in running the organization should be constructive and strategies that are aimed at boosting safety and security should be implemented. The worksite should also be analyzed for potential and real hazards and workers trained on safety and health. Furthermore, the organization’s culture should be one that is intolerant to violence as demonstrated by its vision and mission. Management also needs to utilize tested models in resolving conflicts, complete a threat assessment and keep records that relate to threats and violence in the organization. Furthermore, a multidisciplinary approach should be taken in ensuring that the entire workforce understands the organization’s â€Å"no violence† policy. Registered Nurses (RN) need to promptly asses every employee’s safety needs and assist them accordingly while at the same time seeking to ensure that p atients live in a safe environment. Indeed, all employees wish to work in a safe and secure environment. However, workplace violence impacts the healthcare industry negatively, especially with respect to the recruitment and retention of staff. Violence lowers workers’ morale and could cause physical pain and emotional trauma. Emotional trauma is commonly associated with poor work performance, absenteeism and high employee turnover. In order to establish such an environment, both management and employees should take a proactive role to establish a positive culture – one that prioritizes safety and good health. Management should asses risks and respond to safety needs appropriately, training employees on the subject in case of need. Workers on the other hand should be committed to providing

The Concept and Process of Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

The Concept and Process of Leadership - Essay Example This research will begin with the statement that leadership entails a process whereby an individual can influence other workers to achieve a particular objective, and able to direct an organization in the way that enhances the cohesiveness and coherence. However, while leadership involves a learning process, it is also important to note that, a person’s attributes, values or beliefs have an influence on the leadership process. This is because these characters make a leader be unique in the workplace. In order to become an efficient and effective leader, a person needs to develop an honest understanding of himself or herself, what he or she knows and their capabilities as a prospective leader of an organization or a team within the work environment. In the end, the followers of a leader can determine whether an individual is a good leader within an organizational setting. As such, it is important for leaders to exhibit trust and confidence when leading others people or workers within the organization setting. Being a leader entails convincing followers and not superiors of your worthiness to be followed by other workers. Conversely, while convincing followers of their worthiness to be followed, leaders need to note that different people within the workplace require different leadership styles. For instance, new employees in an organization need to be supervised more compared to experienced workers in the same organization. As such, leadership process requires leaders to understand the needs of those they lead. Further, communication is also important in terms of establishing a working alliance between the leader and other workers. This helps to avoid misunderstanding between the leader and other workers in an organization. Leadership process also entails developing an understanding of various situations that may arise within the work environment, this is because the different situation requires a different measure to be taken. As such, a leader needs to d evelop a sound judgment regarding the best option or leadership style to use for each emerging situation.

Buddha advised the monks to avoid eating ten kinds of meat for their self-respect and protection: humans, elephants, horses, dogs, snakes, lions, tigers, boars and hyenas. Some animals attack people when they smell the flesh of their own kind. Tibetans will not ever eat fish, and usually stay away from foul. The reason is that different kinds of meat supposedly give different kinds of obscurations. Fish, the obscuration of aggression; foul the obscuration of desire; and red meat the obscruration of ignorance. Evidently, they would take the ignorance over the others. Also, it was generally better to eat red meat because the animal killed was very large and only one life had to be taken to feed many people; with fish, you usually have to take many more lives to fill the same number of stomachs. | Rastafarian| Some lambNo porkSome beef, chicken, cheese, milk yoghurtNo shellfishNo fast periods| EYMP 3 – 5. 4 Educating children in food management and portion control is very important as eating habits developed in childhood will continue into later life. Education starts with the parents and it is in the home where all children’s eating habits are formed. Leaflets should be given to parents when they give birth about properly feeding their children and the importance of nutritional value of food. Nurseries and schools should give regular newsletters to parents with the importance of nutritional value in foods. Educational establishments should educate children and parents about the importance of portion control and ensure that correct portion sizes are given. This message can be reinformed with smaller plates. Health Visitors, school nurseries, health professionals and dieticians are all crucial in spreading the message to children and parents about the importance of healthy eating and portion control. They are also crucial in checking that children are gaining weight healthily but not too much. Encouraging lots of physical play in school/nursery will help in keeping childrens weight under control. Educating children in the importance of not bullying other children who are overweight is also very important. SHC 32 – 1. 1 Job description Look after children and ensure they are kept healthy and safe Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to Carry out risk assessments before any new activities/toys are introduced Devise educational and fun activities for children from age 4 to 11 Supervises activities Supervise children Read to the children Supervise toilet trips Prepare healthy and nutricious snacks for children Keep play areas clean and tidy Assist children with homework Baking with the children SHC 32 1. 2 I am expected to follow the following codes of practice: Safeguarding – ensuring that the children are kept safe whilst in our care and also be very observant as to what happens when the children are not in our care, ie if the children arrive with bruises or if they are upset, shaken or distressed when they arrive or as they are leaving. Also to make sure that other staff treat all the children well and do not mistreat any of them. Whistleblowing Policy – ensuring that if there is anything that we do not feel comfortable about, for example if we feel that one of the staff members are behaving inappropriately towards any of the children, we are expected to report this to our Manager to ensure that action is taken to prevent further mistreatment. Health Safety at Work Act – acting responsibly in the environment in which we work. Ensuring that we follow all guidelines to keep our work place safe and that we keep ourselves, our colleagues and the children safe. National minimum standards – EYFS Welfare Requirements – ensuring that children are developing properly in line with targets set for their ages. National Occupational Standards – Ensuring that we conform to best practice set within the industry to make sure that we are complying with standards set. SHC 32 2. 3 Working practices may be affected if hypothetically my Manager decided that a game of hopscotch was not appropriate for the young children to play but, as a younger person, I believed that it was a safe game to play. I would have a discussion with my Manager and explain why I thought it was safe and my Manager would explain that she had carried out a risk assessment for Hopscotch and decided that it was inappropriate. In a previous role, I did not agree with the way a member of staff disciplined young children when she was unhappy with their behaviour. She shouted at the child without coming down to their level or explaining what the child did. I was uncomfortable with this and brought it to the attention of my Manager who addressed this with the member of staff. This gave me the confidence and experience to ensure that I was very aware of the way my colleagues behaved and to take appropriate action when required. SHC 32 4. 1 I have regular meetings with my Supervisor to discuss how I am progressing within my role and any feedback from parents or colleagues is passed on to me. I have regular meetings with my Manager to discuss my progression where I am asked if I need any additional help or whether I have any comments as to how we can make things better. I regularly meet with my colleagues to discuss planning and how we can make things better for the children and planning activities for the different age groups to ensure all our activities are consistent with each other. I have regular appraisals to monitor my progress and to give and receive feedback about my role and development. I have a college tutor who is there to help me develop my role, develop as an employee and develop my skills as I work towards my Level 3. I frequently research new activities and legislation on the internet to consistently develop. EYMP 4 – 4. 1 It is key to review my practice to ensure that I am fully up to date with latest legislation as things change so frequently and it is important that children are always kept safe and parents are always kept fully informed. It is important to think critically about what I do in my work and analyse how I do it and why I do it that way and asses the effectiveness of what I am doing at work and how I can become more effective. It is something that we need to do regularly to get a clearer picture of what we do in our roles and assess whether we are being really effective.

Does the movie THE PASSION bring about anti semitism Essay -- essays r

The Passion of the Christ, by Mel Gibson has taken America by storm. In the US alone, it made $83,848,082 its first weekend. As of April 25, 2004 it has grossed worldwide over $364 billion. Not bad for a movie with a budget of $30 million.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The movie is subject to a lot of criticism. People are worried about many things. Are the images depicted correct? Is it too gory? What will people’s reaction be? Will any demographic of people get hurt from the movie? A Catholic teacher from California was fired for offering students extra credit to see the Passion. (It is a rated â€Å"R† movie) There are many other problems too. Does The Passion bring about acts of anti-semitism? This will be the purpose of this paper.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  To answer this question, I conducted a simple experiment with different variable. The first variable is age. The second is location. I interviewed sixteen people, (eight women and eight men) and asked them the same questions. Four males and females are from the Binghamton area, and four males and females are from the Long Island area.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I grouped the ages from 18-25, 25-35, 35-55, and 55 and on. I asked each person their faith/religion. I originally asked more than 16 people, but people who refused to answer the question or people of no faith were thrown out. I conducted the experiments at Loews Town Square 9, located at 2425 Vestal Parkway, Binghamton, and Loews Roosevelt Raceway, located at 1025 Corporate Drive in Westbury, Long Island.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I asked each person six question. The results follow: Sex:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Male Age Group:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   18-25  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Location:  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Binghamton  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Religion/Faith: Christian  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Extra Pertinent Information: Very religious. Attends services regularly. Thoughts before movie: Excited to see a religious movie. Would you consider yourself an aggressive or easily agitated person? â€Å"Not really. Pretty laid back.† Do you consider yourself a religious person? Yes. Definitely. Do you think the movie will make people angry at th... ...s of the experiment are clear. One hundred percent of people showed aggression towards the Jews, after all but two claimed to not have an aggressive personality. Just look at message boards posted throughout the internet, or just talk to people. The aggression is there. And unfortunately, Mel Gibson’s movie is causing hostile acts.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I did not see the movie until the experiment was complete, in order to keep this experiment unbiased. I think that the anti-semitism in the movie was extraordinarily clear. I actually think it is totally contrary to the Catholic doctrine. Another thing is the history of the Gibson family. Mel’s father, Hutton, is an open anti-semite, holocaust denier, and accuses the current pope of being Jewish. When a person grows up in a household learning that, it stays with the person. I can prove this with another experiment. Kids who grow up getting physically abused, are usually abusive parents themselves.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In conclusion, the movie does cause anti-semitism and anti-semitic acts. The evidence is clear from the experiment. Hopefully, the world can get through this without any incidents.

Benefits and Costs of Economic Growth

Economic growth is defined as the sustained increase in real GDP or GNP per capita over time. Economic growth is desirable for an economy as it increases its real national income and standards of living for its people in general. Although it is desirable, economic growth does have its benefits and costs. One benefit would be increased levels of consumption. Provided economic growth outstrips population growth, it will lead to higher real income per head. This can lead to higher levels of consumption of goods and services. With economic growth there will be improvement in business expectations, leading to increase in investment. Firms replace worn-out/ obsolete capital or invest in new capital. There will also be expansion of demand, leading to increased output. Existing idle capacity and unemployed labour are utilised. This result in more people being employed, thus increasing the level of consumption within the country. If human welfare is related to the level of consumption, then growth provides an obvious gain to society. Next, it can help to avoid other macroeconomic problems. People aspire to higher living standards. Without a growth in productive potential, people’s demands for rising incomes are likely to lead to higher inflation, balance of payments crises(as more imports are purchased), etc. Growth in productive potential helps to meet these aspirations and avoid macroeconomic crises. Moreover, economic growth makes it easier to redistribute incomes to the poor. If incomes rise, the government can redistribute incomes from the rich to the poor without the rich losing. For example, as people’s incomes rise, they automatically pay more taxes. These extra revenues for the government can be spent on programmes to alleviate poverty. Without a continuing rise in national income, the scope for helping the poor is much more limited. Society may also feel that it can afford to care more for the environment. As people grow richer, they may become less preoccupied with their own private consumption and more concerned to live in a clean environment. Economic growth, though resulting in many economic and social benefits to the people in the country, is not without its costs. Firstly it could result in reduced current consumption. To achieve faster growth, firms will probably need to invest more. This will require financing. The finance can come from higher saving, higher retained profits or higher taxes. Either way, there must be a cut in consumption. In the short run, therefore, higher growth leads to less consumption, not more. Next, growth involves changes in production: both in terms of the goods produced and in terms of the techniques used and the skills required, the more rapid the rate of growth, the more rapid the rate of change. People may find that their skills are no longer relevant. Their jobs may be replaced by machines. People may thus find themselves unemployed, or forced to take low-paid, unskilled work. A richer society may be more concerned for the environment, but it is also likely to do more damage to it. The higher the level of consumption, the higher is likely to be the level of pollution and waste. What is more, many of the environmental costs are likely to be underestimated due to lack of scientific knowledge. Acid rain and the depletion of the ozone layer have been 2 examples. Lastly, it could deplete our non-renewable resources. If growth involves using a greater amount of resources, rather than using the same amount of resources more efficiently, certain non-renewable resources will run out more rapidly. Unless viable alternatives can be found for various minerals and fossil fuels, present growth may lead to shortages for future generations. In conclusion, economic growth can have both benefits and costs depending on certain factors. Moreover it is desirable as long as the benefits outweigh the costs.

High School Students Should Not Receive An Education Essay

Throughout my days of being a high school student I have always been dedicated to doing all of my work and trying my best to do well in school. Might have had certain times where I didn’t feel like doing things but majority of the years in high school I have been working hard to get where I am at right now. The fundamental principle in Rich’s article is that females, as students should not receive an education, but to claim one. In Adrienne Rich s commencement speech, Claiming an Education  , Rich expresses her opinion on women s education and how it should be. Throughout history, women have had little chance to even get a higher education. While this has changed, what is taught has not. In today s society, it is necessary to change things that were previously unheard of. What is taught today is taught from a man s point of view. Not just man in general however. Women and minorities are, for the most part, excluded from giving their point of view. Adrienne Rich writes of the importance of claiming or receiving an education, a dilemma faced in most schools and curriculums across the world. Rich says that both students and professors are a part of the problem, â€Å"but ultimately those two parts are indivisible,† (1). Rich points out the problems with institutionalized education and says that â€Å"if university education means anything beyond the processing of human beings into expected roles, thr ough credit hours, tests, and grades, †¦ it implies an ethical and intellectualShow MoreRelatedThe American Education System1303 Words   |  6 PagesThe American education system is set up to create a clear division between the social classes.
